Walden Percussion Project
The Walden Percussion Project is an amateur found-object percussion ensemble founded in Boston in the 1990's to allow a broad spectrum of people (both the musically trained and untrained) to engage in the process of experimental creative play with sound, and allow people not normally engaged with modern classical music to perform on stage with new music ensembles, as a way to create meaningful connections with what might otherwise be considered a distant and esoteric music world for much of the general public.

The ensemble has developed through multiple different iterations, performing compositions of my own & structured improvisations created by ensemble participants. I have incorporated the ensemble's creative process into experiential learning pedagogies in teaching, for workshops in K-12 education and in post-secondary teaching, including courses on American Experimental Music (Brandeis University, Tufts University, Williams College) and Soundscape and Landscape in East Asian Cultures (University of Alberta).
The ensemble has performed multiple works of mine in North America and Asia with ensembles such as Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble, Wet Ink Ensemble and PAN Project Ensemble. Scores and recordings written in part for the Walden Percussion Project include:
Water Rhythm
Three Impressions for Orchestra
Southern Excursions
Wandering in the Footsteps of Li Bai
Turning Tides
