reconstructed ecologies

The New Landscape (reconstructed ecologies) is a installation project currently in development with Seattle-based installation artist Roger Feldman and statistician Ivor Cribben. The installation draws inspiration from ideas in landscape painting and ecosystems. Working with soundscape zones made up of sounds from two ecosystems (Washington State's Olympic Forest and Alberta's grasslands) the soundscapes will change based on movement of visitors within the sculpture tracked by clusters of proximity sensors. Data collected from sensor zones are statistically analyzed for variation patterns which will cause sound layers within a zone change, or zones to exchange layers mixing rainforests with grasslands.
